A group of men head to a remote village to help one of their friends get over his divorce; when they get there, though, they discover that all the women have been infected with a virus that makes them man-hating cannibals.
When it comes to comedy/horror the Brits seem to have a special formula that works almost every-time, just take a look at the track record and you’ll see what I’m on about. “Doghouse” is one of those films and it doesn’t disappoint.
The films sole premise may be nothing new, a virus turning people in-to raging cannibals, but it does add a few tweaks such as the virus only affecting females who then turn in-to man hating zombie like cannibals. It may seem like nothing but once you notice it becomes men versus women you realise it’s something we’ve never seen before.
The film got a-lot of criticism for that twist, many people branded it sexist, now I’m not saying it isn’t but I will say that this film was for more of a male targeted audience and only women with open minds can see the humour in it and won’t find it offensive. I don’t really see it but then again, I am male.
One feeling you get whilst watching this film is that everyone had such a blast making it, you truly get the sense of a great time being had and it makes it even more entertaining. The comedic aspect of the film is very funny, mix that with some great gore and you have a perfect match.
The casting of the film is great, you’ve got UK favourite Danny Dyer who always seem to shine bright in these sort of films and I hope he continues to make them. You’ve also got Noel Clarke who is absolutely hilarious and look out for UK Horror host/actress & writer Emily Booth as ‘The Snipper’.
The film is an under-rated gem, if you like these types of films then you’ll love this. It may not be as good as “Shaun Of The Dead” but it’s still a great watch.
