Horror Review: House Of 9 (2005)

Nine strangers, with no apparent connection between them are abducted: drugged, kidnapped and sealed in a house together.

I’m going to take you back in time, the year is 2005 and I have just walked into a wonderland, a special place called Blockbusters.
For those of you who don’t remember or never went it was a truly magical place filled with racks and racks of films, my favourite obviously being the Horror section. It was here that I discovered many, many films and I know it was the same for many others, not all were gems though, but there were diamonds in the rough.
I’d rent many a film that I’d never heard of, this being one of them, yes we paid for the privilege to watch films we knew nothing about. Trying to explain that to some people is seriously fun as you can see that they can’t comprehend what you’re talking about. Blockbusters was the place to be on a Friday night.
I have fond memories of this film and having rewatched it I’m happy to say that I still really enjoyed it. I had forgot what an eclectic cast it had with the likes of Dennis Hopper, Peter Capaldi and Kelly Brook but it was the films story that got me, it was really intriguing and mixed Horror and psychology very well.
I think the film got sadly overlooked due to its formula as it was something that was quite popular around that time, but one thing I loved that a lot of people seemed to hate was the films ending I won’t give it away to those who haven’t seen it but I don’t understand the hate that it gets.
“House Of 9” is a film that on paper really shouldn’t have worked, with it’s strange casting and dark tone but I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen it then I urge to at least just give it a try.
