For this ‘Ten Years On’ post we take a look back at “Contracted”.
I’m a real sucker for a body Horror film.

So of course, this film was one I was looking forward to seeing. I remember when I first got to watch it, I didn’t really know what to think about it, I didn’t dislike it but I didn’t love it either. I was indifferent to it, and when I’m like this, I need to watch it again.
I gave it some time before I did so and eventually I decided to give it another viewing. This time I realised why I felt the way I did towards the film, it seemed to be a tad thrown together in it’s story and I also felt like it was holding back when it had the chance to do more.

I later found out that the original script was more graphic and also had more sex and nudity, but director Eric England said the producers were extremely religious and made him cut almost all of it out. I felt like it could have been way more graphic and could’ve pushed further.
Our leading lady, Najarra Townsend, is the shining light in this feature. She puts in a fantastic performance as we see her fall apart, both physically and mentally. Unfortunately, the ending left a lot to be desired, it’s certainly a ‘what could’ve been’ ending.

Ten years on and I feel “Contracted” could be a film we’d see released today, and it would still frustrate me with it’s wasted potential.
