Horror Review: Nekrotronic (2018)

A man discovers that he is part of a secret sect of magical beings who hunt down and destroy demons in the Internet.

After the abundance of Christmas films I sat through last month, I wanted to watch something that would be a good pallette cleanser.

That’s where I stumbled upon this feature, an Australian film that had managed to pass me by. After watching it I had to wonder how it had managed to do so, you see this was one of the most fun and entertaining films I’ve seen in quite a while.

This film was written and directed by the same team that brought us “Wyrmwood: Road Of The Dead” and it’s sequel “Wyrmwood: Apocalypse”, so that gives you an idea of what this films style is and it just oozes the charm that they manage to put into each film.

Kiah Roache-Turner and Tristan Roache-Turner have a seriously bright future ahead of them, they make an amazing team. They have a knack for making highly entertaining films and I can’t wait to see what they have lined up for us in the future, be sure to keep an eye out.

It’s very obvious that a ton of hard work from everyone involved has gone into this film, it’s all there on the screen for everyone to see, and as a viewer you’re rewarded with a highly entertaining film. The cast includes Monica Bellucci who is so good and seems to revel in her role.

“Nekrotronic” is hard to categorise, imagine “The Exorcist” mixed with “Ghostbusters” and add a dash of “Shaun Of The Dead” and you’ll get the idea. I challenge you not to enjoy this.

Miscellaneous facts about the film:

David Wenham’s last scene in the film was difficult for him because he is a bit claustrophobic, but according to the director he powered through it like a trouper.

The original concept was to be ghost hunters trapped in a haunted house.

Composer Michael Lira had some fun with the choir’s lyrics of Nekrotronic; You can listen out for Internet terminology recited backwards throughout the film including; Mar Ga Tad – data-gram Dah Re Nab – banner ad Noh Ki To Me- emoticon During the finale as a Demon rises from the plasma pool, a choir is heard chanting Latin; “Stagnum Calidum” and very quietly “Flexilis Anatis”; which translate as “Hot Bath” (hot tub) and “Rubber Duck.”

The demon’s company logo spells out 666, which is the number of the beast explained in the Bible. In real life, many companies logos have this embedded, most notably C.E.R.N and Google Chrome.
