Who doesn’t want to watch a film about a rampaging Baboon?!

This is one of those films that I’d heard about for years but just never got round to seeing it. That was until recently when I found a DVD of it and decided it was about time I watched it and see what everyone had been going on about all this time.
From the off it’s very obvious we are dealing with a film on the lower budget end of the scale and in all honestly it hasn’t aged well, as we’re shown scenes involving some very dated technology but don’t let that bother you. I always feel things like this can add to a films charm.

The one thing that struck me about this film was how much I really got into it, It was way more intense than I was expecting and that was a great surprise. I had to stop myself from shouting at the screen and I found myself laughing at the end, not at the film but at how I’d reacted to it.
I also thought that the features budget restrictions were more of a help than a hinderance, certain scenes are left up to the viewer to think what has happened and I miss that with modern Horror films. Plus the fact that the baboon wasn’t some dodgy CGI like it would be now was just fantastic.

“Shakma” is a film some might consider to be ‘so bad it’s good’. Personally, I loved every minute of it and think it’s a real fun natural Horror film.
