While struggling on a solo backpacking trip in Thailand, social media influencer Madison meets CW.
I absolutely hate it when I have to review films like this.

Here’s the problem, you see I’d love to share my thoughts on this film, but this is a film where the less you know about it the better it is for you as a viewer. So it puts me in a bit of a difficult situation, how much do I tell you so it doesn’t spoil it for you.
Well first of all I’d like to point out how much I really enjoyed the cinematography of this feature. It makes great use of the beautiful country that is Thailand and its surroundings, though how they made it seem isolated instead of the hustle and bustle we usually see was great.

Even though the story is not something original doesn’t mean it’s not entertaining, plus I thought they did a great job of modernising the ‘foreigner abroad’ story and making it for a modern audience in a present-day setting and all that goes with that.
The actors do a good job but for me the stand out was Cassandra Naud, I think she has a bright future ahead of her, certainly one to look out for. Same goes for director, writer and producer Kurtis David Harder who is certainly making a name for himself.

“Influencer” is admittedly leans more towards thriller than Horror but in my opinion it makes for a refreshing watch. It’s something familiar, yet new. Just give it a try.

Miscellaneous facts about the film:
CW’s birthmark is not a makeup effect. Actress Cassandra Naud was born with a large nevus under her right eye.
In a scene where CW takes Madison back to her place she has a copy of Mark Twain’s The Innocents Abroad. One recurring theme in Twain’s book is how he finds himself bored and even angered by places where history and culture is exploited for profit.
The voice-overs of Madison narrating after the title sequence were created with an actual AI voice creator, no actual recordings of Emily Tennant were used.
