My Top Twenty Found Footage Horror Films

Found Footage, you either love them or hate them.

Whether it’s found footage or mockumentary or anythying that falls in the genre, I’m a huge fan of it, which is why I decided to do this list.

So here it is, my list of my top twenty found footage Horror films (the list is not in a favouritism order):

The Blair Witch Project (1999)

Three film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.


The Grave Encounters (2011)

In a bid to increase the ratings of their reality show, a production team locks itself in a psychiatric hospital that is allegedly haunted to find proof of paranormal activity.


Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon (2006)

The next great psycho horror slasher has given a documentary crew exclusive access to his life as he plans his reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo, all the while deconstructing the conventions and archetypes of the horror genre for them.


What We Do In The Shadows (2014)

V/H/S (2012)

When a group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for.


Apollo 18 (2011)

Three astronauts are sent by the US for lunar explorations. While collecting moon rock samples, the astronauts encounter eerie happenings, which prevents their return journey to Earth.


Savageland (2015)

A small border town on the Arizona-Mexico border is wiped out, and suspicion falls on the lone survivor, an illegal immigrant who managed to record photographic evidence of what truly happened.


The Tunnel (2011)

A film crew learns of a government cover-up about the abandoned train tunnels beneath the heart of Sydney, and decides to go inside to try to find the truth. Very quickly the group begins to realise that perhaps the cover-up was for a good reason.
