What does 2025 have in store for Horror fans?
2024 was a good year for the Horror genre, actually it was a great year.

2024 was the year Horror took over and we also saw a few surprises too, I mean who thought that the controversial “Terrifier 3” would dominate at the box office and rake in nearly $100million, even outperforming “Joker: Folie à Deux”. Nobody could’ve predicted that.
We also saw the body Horror genre get mainstream once again with the release of “The Substance”. A film that garnered it’s own controversy with reports of people leaving theaters showing the film as they couldn’t handle what was being shown on screen.

I don’t know about you but I thought it was great to see the the words ‘controversial’ and ‘Horror film’ back in the headlines, to mean it showed that there are studios out there still willing to take risks and try and shock audiences. I think it’s safe to say it worked.
But what about 2025? Will this year carry on the momentum that 2024 built up for the genre? There are certainly a few releases I’m looking forward to, one of them being a film that fans have been clamouring for, for nearly 20 years. Talk about anticipation.

Obviously I’m talking about “28 Years Later”, this will be the third entry in the franchise and the plot is being kept under wraps for now. Though I am happy that we know that Cillian Murphy is returning to his and Danny Boyle is back with his writing/directing duties.
Another release I’m looking forward to is actually said to be the last film of the franchise (though we’ve all heard that before), that film being “The Conjuring: Last Rites”. Here’s hoping that the series manages to go out with a bang, not something we get to see a lot unfortunately.

There’s even more sequels on the way in 2025 with the likes of “Final Destination: Bloodlines”, “Saw XI”, “M3GAN 2.0”, “The Black Phone 2”, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” being announced for released and more being reported to be in the pipeline too.
We’re also getting reboots of 3 of the most iconic characters in the Horror genre. Blumhouse are taking on the “Wolf Man” with Leigh Whannell directing, we also have Netflix taking on “Frankenstein” with the one and only Guillermo del Toro directing.

I’m a big fan of Guillermo del Toro’s work and I’m actually excited to see his vision for “Frankenstein”, he has a great eye for detail. We are also said to be getting a new “Bride Of Frankenstein” film with Maggie Gyllenhaal taking on writingm directing and producing duties.
We kicked off the year with another reboot of a classic though that built up hype all last year, “Nosferatu”. It was released on the 1st January and I absolutely loved it, though I do admit that I think it will be a very divisive film amongst filmgoers.

There is excitement surrounding a couple of upcoming releases this year such as Osgood Perkins’ “The Monkey”, which is based on a Stephen King short story. We also have Netflix adding another release to their “Fear Street” series with “Fear Street: Prom Queen”.
There is also word a new “Insidious” film. A spin off type of film which after reading it’s synopsis, which revolves around time travel, doesn’t exactly fill me with hope and as much as it sounds like a ‘milking the cow dry’ situation I know I’ll end up watching it. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

One release that seems to be under the radar is the film adaptation of the book “Clown In A Cornfield”, the highy successful Horror book by Adam Cesare. Whilst I admittedly haven’t read the book myself yet I’ve heard great things, could this be the surprise hit of the year?
But what’s going to be the break out film? The one that surprises us all? Well that all remains to be seen. You never know, it could even be a series instead of a film, we are set to get the prequel series “It: Welcome To Derry” this year. I am extremely excited for that.

Here’s hoping that 2025 will be another great year for our beloved genre, personally I think it’s certauinly going to be an interesting one.
