Ten Years On: Deathgasm

For this ‘Ten Years On’ post we take a look back at “Deathgasm”.

Heavy metal and Horror, count me in!

I remember being so excited for this release, it just seemed like it was going to be so much fun to watch and luckily I was right. This feature was right up my alley, with its perfect mixture of Horror, comedy, practical effects and heavy metal, well let’s just say I was in my element.

The film has the same vibe as one of my favourite TV shows, “Todd & The Book Of Pure Evil”, if you’ve seen it you’ll know what I’m on about (if you’ve never watched it I highly recommend it). It has the similar mix of humour and horror, something I think a lot of 80’s Horror fans would appreciate.

The film became something of a cult hit and deservedly so, it’s a highly entertaining film that never takes itself too seriously which is part of its charm. There has been rumblings of a sequel for a little while now, in fans eyes it’ll certainly have a lot to live up to. Sometimes a sequel isn’t needed.

I’ll leave you with this little bit of trivia about the film, something that still always manages to make me laugh: In early 2016, Walmart refused to sell the movie with the title “Deathgasm” and renamed it to what was deemed a more ‘acceptable’ title “Heavy Metal Apocalypse.”

“Deathgasm” is such a fun film, especially if you enjoy Horror, metal and gore all together in one feature. Ten years on and I still have a smile splattered across my face everytime I watch this, even after the credits roll too.
