My Best & Worst Films Of 2013

In this list I’m going to give you a run-down of my best & worst of 2013.

The Penny Dreadful Picture Show Three tales of terror, each set in a different decade. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.
Among Friends – At a murder mystery dinner party, a group of friends slowly start to realize they’ve been brought there to be sadistically confronted by one of their own. 
Gallowwalkers – A cursed gunman whose victims come back from the dead recruits a young warrior to help in the fight against a gang of zombies. 
Insidious: Chapter 2 – The haunted Lambert family seek to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.
Jug Face – the story of a pregnant teen trying to escape a backwoods community when she discovers that she may be sacrificed to a creature in a pit. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Hatchet III –  Marybeth hunts down the true secret to ending the voodoo curse that has left the ghost of Victor Crowley haunting and terrorizing Honey Island Swamp for decades. 

100 Bloody Acres –  Brothers Reg and Lindsay Morgan are struggling to keep their organic blood and bone fertilizer business in motion. 

Room 237 – Many movies lend themselves to dramatic interpretations, but none as rich and far ranging as Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining”. 

Wrath Of The Crows – In a dirty and narrow jail, Larry, Deborah, Hugo, Hernest and Liza, the prisoners, are obliged to suffer injustices from the guards and from their chief, the officer.

Resolution – A man, looking to save his best friend from the throes of methamphetamine addiction, ties him up in an abandoned cabin and induces withdrawal.

American Mary – Medical student, Mary Mason, becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Stoker – After India’s father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie, who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother. 

Byzantium Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. 

The Monkeys Paw – Jake is given a monkey’s paw that grants three wishes. 

Dark Skies –  As husband and wife Daniel and Lacey Barret witness an escalating series of disturbing events involving their family, their safe and peaceful home quickly unravels. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters – After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel and Gretel have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. 

The Lords Of Salem – Heidi, a radio station DJ living in Salem, Massachusetts, receives a strange wooden box containing a record, a gift from the Lords. 

Fantasm – At 15 years old, Kyle Kuchta went to his first horror convention. Years later, he visits multiple cons to understand why these gatherings are so important to horror fans, vendors and celebrity guests.

Night Of The Tentacles – In this obscene Faustian tale a young artists sells his soul to Satan for the new heart he so desperately needs. The only catch is that the heart is a tentacled monstrosity with a hunger for human flesh! 

The Seasoning House – The Seasoning House: where young girls are prostituted to the military. 

Rabid Love – Five recent college grads go for one last vacation in the woods during the summer of 1984 and one of them is infected with a mad scientist’s synthetic rabies virus.

The Conjuring – Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Adjust Your Tracking – A documentary capturing the modern day VHS culture and VHS collectors.

Vamp U – Wayne Gretzky is a vampire with teeth that won’t grow. 

The Call 911 operator Jordan takes a life-altering call from a teenage girl who has just been abducted. 

All Hallows Eve – While watching two children on Halloween night, a babysitter finds an old VHS tape in the kids’ trick or treat bag. 

My Amityville Horror – For the first time in 35 years, Daniel Lutz recounts his version of the infamous Amityville haunting that terrified his family in 1975. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Don’t Go To The Reunion – A prank goes too far for the popular students at Hamilton High as they begin to pay for their actions 10 years later at their high school reunion.

Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal – A painter struggling for inspiration finds an unexpected muse after he accepts a teaching position in a small town and becomes the caregiver to Eddie, a seemingly docile art student with a rare sleepwalking condition.

Mold! – The story concerns a strain of mould developed by the government to wipe out Colombian coca fields. Unfortunately, during a demonstration, the mould gets out of control and proves to be deadly to more than just vegetation. 

V/H/S/2 – Searching for a missing student, two private investigators break into his house and find collection of VHS tapes. 

Evidence – A detective hunts down a killer using video footage shot by the victims of a massacre at an abandoned gas station. 

The Butterfly Room  Ann, a reclusive elegant lady, with an obsession for butterflies, is surprisingly befriended by the eerily beautiful young Alice. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

Nobody Gets Out Alive – A group of college students escape their troubled lives but only to find themselves fighting for their lives from a revenge seeking mad man. 

A Little Bit Zombie – Infected by a virus, a mild mannered HR manager attempts to fulfil his overwhelming desire for brains, all while trying to keep it together so as not to incur the wrath of his bridezilla-to-be.

The Black Dahlia Haunting – While investigating the murder of her father by her blind younger brother, a young woman disturbs the vengeful spirit of Elizabeth Short, known in legend as “The Black Dahlia”.

Would You Rather – Desperate to help her ailing brother, a young woman unknowingly agrees to compete in a deadly game of “Would You Rather,” hosted by a sadistic aristocrat. 

Frankenstein’s Army – Russian soldiers pushing into eastern Germany stumble across a secret Nazi lab, one that has unearthed and begun experimenting with the journal of one Dr. Victor Frankenstein. 

Babysitter Massacre – A group of young women teamed together in their youth to run a babysitting business, when one of their friends died suddenly the group fell apart.

Curse Of Chucky – After her mother’s mysterious death, Nica begins to suspect that the talking, red-haired doll her visiting niece has been playing with may be the key to recent bloodshed and chaos. I did a review for this film which can be read HERE.

John Dies At The End  A new street drug that sends its users across time and dimensions has one drawback: some people return as no longer human. 

Sorority Party Massacre – When a city detective follows a missing persons investigation to a sleepy mountain town he finds himself protecting a group of sorority girls from a serial killer. 

Bela Kiss Prologue – Bela Kiss was one of the the most brutal serial killers, who killed 23 young women during the beginning of the first World War. The blood-drained bodies were found in metal barrels, conserved in alcohol. 

Return To Nuke ‘Em High – A young couple are up against the school glee club. Unfortunately, the glee club has mutated into a gang called The Cretins. 

Omnivores – a prestigious gastronomic journalist accepts the request of an independent publisher to write an article on the recent emergence of the Clandestine Restaurants. 

Haunter –  The ghost of a teenager who died years ago reaches out to the land of the living in order to save someone from suffering her same fate. 

Crawlspace – A special forces unit sent, to infiltrate Pine Gap Australia’s top secret underground military compound, come under attack from unknown forces.

Macabre – Two newly weds Adjie and Astrid, along with 3 of their best friends decided to have an interstate road trip as a last attempt to reconcile Adjie with his estranged little sister. 

Dark Circles – Alex and Penny are sick of the hectic city life and decide a move out to the country to raise their newborn child. 

Wither – Ida and Albin are a happy couple. They set off to a cabin in the vast Swedish woodlands to have a fun holiday with their friends. 

Blind Alley – A young woman spends a night trapped inside a laundromat with a serial killer. 

House Of Good And Evil – After a family tragedy in the chaotic city, Chris and Maggie Conley, in a last-ditch effort to save their dying marriage, purchase an isolated home in the deepest woods. 

Chastity Bites –  Countess Elizabeth Bathory slaughtered women believing if she bathed in the blood she would stay young and beautiful forever. Still alive today, she’s found a perfect hunting ground for her ‘botox’ as an abstinence educator in conservative America. 

We Are What We Are – The Parkers, a reclusive family who follow ancient customs, find their secret existence threatened as a torrential downpour moves into their area. 

Sinister VisionsA horror anthology featuring five bone-chilling tales of dread. 

Comedown – Six friends who turn the deserted the tower block they lived in as kids into a pirate radio station soon learn they are not alone. 

Juan Of The Dead – A group of slackers face an army of zombies. 

Truth Or Dare – When six college students hit internet stardom by videoing themselves playing a high stakes version of Truth Or Dare, their number one fan decides he wants to play.

Sanitarium – Three stories of the mentally ill. 

Outpost III: Rise Of The Spetsnaz – We discover the horrifying origins of these supernatural soldiers and see them in battle against the most notorious of all military special forces, the Russian Spetsnaz. 

Kiss Of The Damned – The vampire Djuna resists the advances of Paolo, but soon gives in to their passion. When her trouble-making sister unexpectedly comes to visit, Djuna’s love is threatened, and the whole vampire community becomes endangered.

Escape From Tomorrow – In a world of fake castles and anthropomorphic rodents, an epic battle begins when an unemployed father’s sanity is challenged by a chance encounter with two under-age girls on holiday. 

Rigor Mortis – A public housing tenement is plunged into a dark storm of supernatural chaos. 

Antiviral – After becoming infected with the virus that killed superstar Hannah Geist, Syd March must unravel the mystery surrounding her death to save his own life. 

The Last Will And Testament Of Rosalind Leigh – An antiques collector inherits a house from his estranged mother only to discover that she had been living in a shrine devoted to a mysterious cult.

Easter Casket – All hell breaks loose when Peter Cottontail aka The Easter Bunny hears that the Catholic Church is about to do away with all Easter rituals not pertaining directly to the resurrection of Christ.

Crossbearer – Heather is broke. She has a soul sucking job as a stripper. Her live-in girlfriend Victoria has a baby and a coke problem. Her boss Harry is an abusive maniac. Life cannot get much worse… or so she thought. 

Almost Human – Mark Fisher disappeared from his home in a brilliant flash of blue light almost two years ago. His friend Seth Hampton was the last to see him alive. 

Resolution – A man, looking to save his best friend from the throes of methamphetamine addiction, ties him up in an abandoned cabin and induces withdrawal. 

Open Grave – A man wakes up in the wilderness, in a pit full of dead bodies, with no memory and must determine if the murderer is one of the strangers who rescued him, or if he himself is the killer. 

Contracted – A young lesbian is drugged and raped by a stranger at a party and contracts, what she thinks is, a sexually-transmitted disease – but is actually something much worse. 

The Battery – The personalities of two former baseball players clash as they traverse the rural back roads of a post-plague New England teeming with the undead. 

Stalled – A janitor gets trapped in a women’s restroom and encounters an all-out attack by a horde of zombies.

You’re Next – When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of victims harbours a secret talent for fighting back. 

World War Z – United Nations employee Gerry Lane traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments, and threatening to destroy humanity itself.

Nothing Left To Fear – A family’s journey toward a better life is interrupted by an unstable man of the cloth.

Slender Man – Four characters become intertwined with the Slender Man during a string of child kidnappings.

A Haunted House – Malcolm and Kisha move into their dream home, but soon learn a demon also resides there. 

Evil Dead – Five friends head to a remote cabin, where the discovery of a Book of the Dead leads them to unwittingly summon up demons living in the nearby woods.

Warm Bodies – After a highly unusual zombie saves a still-living girl from an attack, the two form a relationship 

Avalanche Sharks – After a horrific avalanche, the staff at Twin Pines Ski Resort starts to receive reports of missing people and creatures that move beneath the snow.

Girls Against Boys – After a series of bad experiences with men, Shae teams up with her co-worker, Lu, who has a simple, deadly way of dealing with the opposite sex.

The Last Exorcism Part II – As Nell Sweetzer tries to build a new life after the events of the first movie, the evil force that once possessed her returns with an even more horrific plan.

Apartment 1303 – Having grown up under the controlling grip of her fame-hungry mother, Janet Slate jumps at the opportunity to move into what looks to be a great high-rise apartment in down-town Detroit. 

Killer Holiday – A startling motive is revealed when psychotic killer Melvin ‘Spider’ Holiday stalks 8 unsuspecting teenage victims lured to an abandoned amusement park off old Route 66.

Carrie – Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.

Hell Baby – An expectant couple who moves into the most haunted house in New Orleans call upon the services of the Vatican’s elite exorcism team to save them from a demonic baby.

Skinwalker Ranch – A scientific research team investigates and documents the supernatural phenomena surrounding the disappearance of a cattle ranchers 10 year old son.

100 Degrees Below Zero – When a chain of volcanic eruptions rips through Europe, the enormous ash cloud blocks out the sun, plunging the continent into a new ice age.

Ooga Booga – Ooga Booga follows an innocent African American boy who is brutally murdered by dirty cops, but his soul is magically transferred into an action figure named Ooga Booga.

Thale – Norwegian folklore turns out to be real when Leo and Elvis encounter Thale in a basement.

Dracula 3D – An unsuspecting Englishman arrives in Transylvania, lured by a job with a local nobleman. 

13/13/13 – For millennia, calendars have added an extra day every four years. In doing so, they violated the ancient Mayan calendar.

Stripped – Four friends head to Vegas for a 21st birthday in hopes of finding adventure, debauchery and memories that will last them a lifetime.

Under The Bed – Two brothers team up to battle a creature under the bed.

All Cheerleaders Die – A rebel girl signs up a group of cheerleaders to help her take down the captain of their high school football team, but a supernatural turn of events thrusts the girls into a different battle.

The Frankenstein Theory – When he is suspended from his university job for his outlandish ideas, Professor John Venkenheim leads a documentary film crew to the rim of the Arctic Circle in a desperate effort to vindicate his academic reputation.

Mama – Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces that were left alone in the forest for 5 years…. but how alone were they?

Beneath – Six high school seniors celebrating with day’s excursion find themselves on rowboat attacked by man-eating fish and must decide who must be sacrificed as they fight their way back to shore.

The ABC’s Of Death – A 26-chapter anthology that showcases death in all its vicious wonder and brutal beauty.

Camp 139 – A drug fueled camping trip goes to hell when a militant killing machine stalks four teens through the wilderness, luring them toward an abandoned Army hospital.

I Am ZoZo – Five young people who play with a Ouija board on Halloween attract the attention of a malevolent demon.

Sharknado – When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, nature’s deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace.

Ghost Team One – Two roommates deathly afraid of ghosts both fall in love with a girl who believes their home is haunted.

Texas Chainsaw 3D – A young woman travels to Texas to collect an inheritance; little does she know that an encounter with a chainsaw-wielding killer is part of the reward.

Absence – Doctors are baffled when an expectant mother wakes to find her nearly-to-term pregnancy apparently disappear overnight.

The Purge – In the future, a wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the target of a murderous syndicate during the Purge, a 12-hour period in which any and all crime is legalized.

Dark Touch – In a remote town in Ireland, eleven-year-old Niamh finds herself the sole survivor of a bloody massacre that killed her parents and younger brother.

The Haunting In Connecticut 2: Ghosts Of Georgia – A young family moves into a historic home in Georgia, only to learn they are not the house’s only inhabitants. 

Aatma – A single mother fights against the supernatural in order to hold on to her daughter.

Stranded – Four astronauts working at a lunar base suffer a meteor strike that brings an infection that leads to paranoia, fear and death.

Creep Creepersin’s Dracula – A new take on an old legend.

The Paranormal Diaries: Clophill – In March 1963, a black mass was held at a ruined church in Clophill, Bedfordshire by a coven of dark witches. Tombs were looted, animals sacrificed and human bones arranged during a macabre ceremony.

Hellbenders 3D – The Augustine Interfaith Order of Hellbound Saints, a team of blasphemous ministers who live in a constant state of debauchery, work to drag the worst of demons back to Hell.

The Mooring – Every 40 seconds a person goes missing. In northern Idaho, a group of teenage girls attended a summer camp. They were told it would be a summer of change. It was.

Dark Feed – A film crew moves into an abandoned psychiatric hospital with a shadowy past to shoot a low budget horror movie.

The Becoming – This world we call earth experiences an evil Darkness. For the powers of the spirit world are alive. 

Young, High & Dead – When five friends head to the woods for a weekend of drug fuelled madness their night soon descends into chaos when they pitch up next to the grave of a local missing child.

The Taking – Two strangers must discover a way to escape a sinister family who wishes to sacrifice their souls to an evil presence.

Dead Before Dawn 3D – A bunch of college kids accidentally unleash an evil curse that causes people to kill themselves and turn into Zombie Demons.

The Crone – Ayane, Nanami, and Mayuko, who host a television show about the paranormal. For their next assignment, the girls visit an abandoned nursing home deep in the mountains. 

Mischief Night – Young Emily Walton, who has suffered from psychosomatic blindness ever since the car accident that took her mother’s life, must summon every instinct at her disposal to protect herself and her loved ones from a mysterious intruder.

3G: A Killer Connection – Sam purchase’s a second hand cellphone and starts getting mysterious calls.

Devil’s Pass – Five young filmmakers retrace the steps of a doomed group of hikers in pursuit of an unsolvable mystery.

Afflicted – Two best friends see their trip of a lifetime take a dark turn when one of them is struck by a mysterious affliction.

Ditch Day Massacre – Jenny Bilson, a high school senior, is the perfect student, a wonderful daughter to a veteran police detective and an all American Dream.  But the one mistake she is unaware of making is about to haunt her in a very violent way, as her past returns for revenge.

Hansel & Gretel Get Baked – A brother and sister battle a witch who lures teenagers into her suburban home with her special blend of marijuana where she then proceeds to kill and eat them to maintain her youth and beauty.

Punishment –  When the dead body of a young co-ed is found haven been beaten and brutalized, the small town isn’t ready to panic, until a second body is found.

I Spit On Your Grave 2 – Katie is trying to make it in the cut-throat world of modelling. 

The Cloth – A godless man is recruited by a secret organization who works to combat demonic possessions in order to prepare a new generation in the battle against evil forces.

616: Paranormal Incident – When Special Agent Watts and his Investigation Unit are called to the derelict Woodburrow Prison he thinks it’s business as usual. But there’s nothing usual about Woodburrow.

Redd Inc – A demented boss works six captives to death.

Detention Of The Dead – A group of oddball high school students find themselves trapped in detention with their classmates having turned into a horde of Zombies.

Hansel & Gretel: Warriors Of Witchcraft – Twins discover a coven of witches. The brother is recruited to join while the sister uncovers their heritage as witch slayers. When the brother is supposed to sacrifice his sister they instead team up to destroy the Witch of the Woods. 

Maniac – As he helps a young artist with her upcoming exhibition, the owner of a mannequin shop’s deadly, suppressed desires come to the surface.

Spiders – After a Soviet space station crashes into a New York City subway tunnel, a species of venomous spiders is discovered, and soon they mutate to gigantic proportions and wreak havoc on the city.

Entity – In 1998, thirty four unidentified bodies were found in shallow graves in a remote Siberian forest. After subsequent investigations, no official explanation by the Russian authorities was ever offered about the circumstances of the deaths. 

Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan – Young adults at a first-time offenders’ boot camp discover the legend of the giant lumberjack Paul Bunyan is real, but is much more horrifying than they could have imagined.

Germ – The military’s attempt to shoot down an orbiting satellite unleashes a space-borne epidemic on a remote, small town.

Favor – Kip’s perfect life is put in jeopardy when the waitress with whom he’s having a casual fling is accidentally killed in their motel room. 

Infected – A blood virus infects a small group of hunters turning a father & son trip into a fight for survival.

Nailbiter – The Maguire family is forced to take sudden refuge in a seemingly abandoned storm cellar from a deadly tornado.

After Effect – When college students sign up for what seems a simple paid research study, they soon realize their lives are in danger. 

The Cook –  A young TV actor holds a memorial party for his deceased sister. It is held in an abandoned park where, a murderous, shamanistic drug-lord lives. The actor and his friends are hunted by this seemingly supernatural killer.

A Resurrection – A murdered boys spirit seeks revenge by seeking six souls to live again.

Black Rock – Three childhood friends set aside their personal issues and reunite for a girls’ weekend on a remote island off the coast of Maine.

The Seance Hour: Evil Unleashed – Each week on her local cable show “The Seance Hour,” medium Madame Camille holds a seance with guests from her viewing audience but it’s a sham. Special effects, smoke and mirrors. Everybody behind the scenes knows it – including Camille.

Coffin Baby – Hollywood, California is turned upside down by a series of strange and horrific murders creating chaos and turmoil in tinsel town.

Bad Meat – Ordered to a delinquent camp by their exasperated parents, a group of wayward teens fall foul of a deadly virus that infects the guards and turns them into flesh-eating monsters.

Animus – Hoping to find proof of the paranormal, five film students set out to document the legendary Copper Queen Hospital.

The Devil’s Dozen – Twelve strangers find themselves in a life or death game where sins are judged and every choice a testament to their character.

Alien Showdown: The Day the Old West Stood Still –  An alien scout lands on earth in the year 1854. The creature is searching for water and food. Once it finds what it needs, it will call in an invasion fleet.

Bath Salt Zombies – In New York City, potent strands of bath salts have surfaced and have attracted the most devoted bath salt junkies.

Well there you have it, my best & worst films of 2013, you probably disagree with some or even most (this is MY opinion) of my choices and I know for a fact that I have missed some (I can’t watch ALL the films of 2013) but this is MY best & worst so tell me in the comment box below, what’s yours?
