Six young actresses auditioning for a movie role at a remote mansion are targeted by a mysterious masked murderer.
Canadian Horror doesn’t get the recognition it deserves, here I take a look at one of it’s most famous cult films.
Shooting of the film started in 1980 but it was plagued by production issues such as delays, cast members being fired and replaced, and massive re-writes and re-shoots, it wouldn’t be until 1983 that the film was finally completed and released.
Unfortunately these behind the scenes problems are apparent when viewing the flick, it seems that too many ideas where thrown into the pot and were forced together. Sometimes it worked great, sometimes it just fell completely flat.
When the movie does shine though it’s truly great and it even though it was released in the midst of the ‘Slasher’ era it has elements to it that make it stands on it own with it’s psychological thriller aspects.
We also can’t forget that the feature gave us a crazy killer mask that is often featured in many top ten lists still to this day and also still has the ability to creep people out.
“Curtains” is a highly entertaining film, just make sure you grab a decent copy so you can watch it properly (it’s harder than you think).
