Horror Review: Not Quite Hollywood – The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation! (2008)

The story of the Australian exploitation genre cinema of 1970s and 80s.

I’m a sucker for a documentary, it’s one of my favourite genres of film beside Horror.

Incase you needed to know: Ozploitation – a category of  exploitation films – low-budget horror, comedy, and action films, made in Australia after the introduction of the R rating in 1971.
This opened up a whole new world of film, a world of cult cinema that inspired many young film-makers and actors, most notably Quentin Tarantino who also features in this documentary to talk about his love for the Ozploitation genre.
It’s a revelation of a documentary that opened up my eyes to films I had never even heard of before and have now become firm favourites of mine, the enthusiasm shown by the people featured makes you want to track every film down.
Packed with humour and highly informative you can’t help but love the documentary even if you end up not enjoying the films, it takes on a life of it’s own and the stories told are attention grabbers.
“Not Quite Hollywood – The Wild, Untold Story of Ozploitation” is a fantastic documentary and a must see for fans of the genre.
