Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.
I’m sure that by now, even if you haven’t watched this show yet, then you’ve at least heard of it as it has sweeping the internet like crazy.
I’ll be honest with you here, when I first saw that Mike Flanagan was directing this series I umm’d and ahh’d about it, I wasn’t a big fan of Mike’s early films but more recently he’s created a couple of features that have become my new favourites so I had my fingers crossed that this could keep his run going with this series.
It was very clear, even before the first episode had finished, that I hadn’t needed to worry, I was truly engrossed in the show, it had my full attention and would not let up. I realised that I was watching a classic in the making and I really hoped that it would manage to hold up throughout all ten episodes, luckily I wasn’t to be disappointed.
This series features some of the most breathtaking cinematography and has some stunning long shots that I absolutely loved and would very much like to see more of in the future. Plus the casting is absolutely superb as is the acting itself, young or old each character is truly believable and you warm to each one in a different way.
As amazing as this show is I do have a couple of things to nitpick about. I’d like to have seen a couple of more episodes to feature more of the goings on in the house and *POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT* it maybe an unpopular opinion but I’d like to have seen a darker ending, I feel it would’ve been more in keeping with the shows tone.
“The Haunting Of Hill House” is a rarity in that it lives up to the hype, it will be a show I will re-watch for years to come.
