Ten Years On: Attack The Block

For this ‘Ten Years On’ post we take a look back at “Attack The Block”.

Man, I can’t believe it’s been a decade since this film was released, it really doesn’t seem like that long ago.

Believe it or not, when this feature was initially released there wasn’t a lot of hype around it. Sure there was some marketing and advertising as you’d expect for it but nothing on a big scale. Despite this it did have a strong opening and word quickly got round that this was a ‘must see’ film.

Upon hearing this I knew I just had to see it, unfortunately for me I couldn’t afford the luxury of seeing it on the big screen so I waited until it was released on DVD. After waiting for so long I was extremely excited to watch it, I even remember me and my friends making a night of it with drinks and food.

I can tell you now, everyone of us had the biggest grin on our faces when the film finished, what we saw was a ninety minute rollercoaster of a film that did exactly what I’d hoped it would, entertain us. No one was expecting to see anything Oscar worthy, but what we got was pure fun.

Ten years later and this feature still leaves me with a huge grin on my face, I love everything about it, from the characters to the camera work to the awesome design of the monsters. I have to say it has aged really well and don’t forget it also helped launch the career of John Boyega.

Word has been circulating for some time now about a sequel, I hope this isn’t a feature that gets stuck in development hell as I feel there’s still life left in the story. I think it would be interesting to see where they take the characters after so long since this feature, I’ll keep my fingers crossed.
