Horror In 2022

What does 2022 have in store for Horror fans?

Well here we are in 2022, leaving behind what was another strange year but in my opinion one that was highly entertaining when it came to the Horror genre and it looks like this will continue into this year.

For those of you who are fans of the “Scream” franchise you didn’t have a long wait as the newest and highly anticipated next instalment in the franchise was one of the first releases of the year. I’m sure there are plenty of you out there who were be happy to see ‘Ghostface’ return to the big screen.

Me personally, I’m seriously curious about someone else’s return, that of ‘Leatherface’. Netflix is giving the franchise the “Halloween” sequel treatment, previous sequels will be ignored and we’ll see ‘Sally’ face off with ‘Leatherface’ once again. I’m really intrigued to see how this turns out.

Talking of “Halloween” 2022 will see the end of the new trilogy with “Halloween Ends”, I know “Halloween Kills” was a highly divisive film but I’m sure many fans are still excited to see how the saga finally ends between ‘Michael Myers’ and ‘Laurie Strode’, or will it?

Other reboots will be happening whether we like it or not with “Hellraiser”, “The Munsters”, “Salem’s Lot” and “Evil Dead Rise” all being released in 2022. Talking of “The Munsters”, Tim Burton is also bringing back another beloved family, “The Addams Family” in Netflix’s “Wednesday”.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what surprises 2022 has in store for us, there were releases with minimal advertising released in 2021 and some great films came out of nowhere with online word of mouth being being prevalent. I must admit that it brought back something I’ve missed, fan interaction.

Growing up fan interaction was pivotal, word of mouth had so much power and seeing that make something of a comeback. That fan interaction and people sharing recommendations is what the genre thrives on and I really hope that stays as it’s more important than people think, especially when it comes to the indie scene.

Of course it’s not just about films, 2022 will also see the final season of “The Walking Dead”, I know a lot stopped watching years ago but I’ve been an avid viewer since day one and I’m looking forward to seeing how they end it as I know other fans of the series are, fingers crossed it’s a good one.

There’s also another show that’s coming to Netflix, “Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities”, an anthology show that I am extremely looking forward too. I’m a huge fan of Del Toro’s work and he’s one guy I will always have time for as his work is usually done at a high standard.

There is actually one thing in 2022 that is Horror related that I am EXTREMELY looking forward to and it’s not a film release or a TV series (though it has been both), it’s actually a computer game. That game is “Evil Dead: The Game”, luckily it’s release date is in February so I don’t have to wait long (affording it is another matter).

The one and only Bruce Campbell may have retired from physically playing ‘Ash’ but he’s voicing him for the game, and what a game it looks to be from the trailer. I was a big fan of the previous “Evil Dead” games and played them a lot, admittedly I have high hopes for this game.

Hopefully 2022 will have some hidden gems for us to find but I’d love to know, what are you looking forward to seeing released this year?
