Horror Review: The Owners (2020)

A group of friends think they’ve found an easy score at an empty house with a safe full of cash, but when the elderly owners arrive home things begin to go awry.

I’ve always enjoyed a home invasion film so this feature certainly stood out to me.

I actually picked this one up on a whim when I saw it on a sale, it was cheap so I figured why not, it’d been a long time since I bought a film I knew nothing about. The only thing I knew was one of the actors was in “Game Of Thrones” as it was plastered all over the front as a selling point.

I was excited by my blind purchase and I will openly admit that I am a little biased when a film is British made but I try not to let it influence me too much, I think I just expect a bit more from them. It also feels a bit more real sometimes as it feels closer to home and not some far away country.

But anyway, back to the film. I have to say that I really enjoyed it. The story was well done and whilst I won’t give anything awa there’s certainly enough twists and turns to keep you interested without venturing into ‘unbeliavably absurd’ territory whilst also retaining a certain fun yet intense factor to it.

The cast are great and the characters were portrayed really well, credit must also be given to how they were written. Now I don’t want you to expect perfection from this, there are cliches and I’m sure there’ll be some eye rolling based around some decision making but for me it’s nothing that brings the film down.

“The Owners” is a film that has a lot to offer viewers, I’m actually pretty surprised it hasn’t been talked about more.
