When his experiments into a powerful new anesthetic go hideously awry, respected physician Dr. Jekyll transforms into the hideous Jack Hyde.

The ‘Dr. Jekyll’ and ‘Mr. Hyde’ story has been a firm favourite of mine ever since I read it in school.

Pair that with one of my favourite actors, Anthony Perkins, and this feature became a must watch for me. I was a little trepadatious though as I didn’t want to just see Perkins basically play both sides of ‘Norman Bates’ if you get what I’m trying to say.

Luckily that wasn’t what we got and Anthony Perkins really showed his acting chops here. Seriously, he played both roles of ‘Jekyll’ and ‘Hyde’ flawlessly and there is a clear difstinction between the two that it’s mesmerising as a viewer to watch.

One thing I wasn’t expecting to see was how the film really went deep in to the ‘Hyde’ character, but I’m so glad they did as it dives into this perverted and deranged world of drugs, sex and murder that makes you feel so uncomfortable at times.

Obviously the story is all bout the split personality and the psychological aspects, whilst some may find that somewhat tedious I have to say that it is done in such a way that it keeps hold of your attention and you never know what’s going to happen next.

“Edge Of Sanity” is certainly not for everyone but I urge you to give it a try, even if it’s just to see how great Anthony Perkins truly was.
