Neill Blomkamp is on quite a roll at the moment.
Incase you weren’t aware the name Neill Blomkamp has been creating quite a stir, with his fantastic short films he’s been releasing his name has been garnering more and more admirers who may not have been aware of his work.
As I say he has been causing quite a stir and rightly so, his short features have been nothing short of amazing. If you haven’t been watching them then I have to say you are really missing out.
Blomkamp started Oats Studios this year, the studio was created with the intention to distribute short films via YouTube and Steam in order to gauge interest as to which of them are viable for expansion into feature films.
What a great concept this is, not only do we get fantastic short features that stand on their own but we also have a chance to see these shorts become full features in the near future.
I have to say, even if you don’t like the short films then you most certainly have to respect the man, he’s putting his own money where his mouth is and also giving the film community have the chance to have a say in what happens.
It’s not exactly something we see anybody else doing in this business and it’s refreshing to see someone be so open with their work and share their ideas with the fans and let them have a say in what happens next.
I’m really looking forward to see where this all goes, for all we know this could be a game changer and could alter the business as we know it. If successful more studios may go down this route, who knows.
I have to say he’s really earned my respect with this project and it seems that fans have reacted very positively to it which is a great thing, this could well be the next step in how films are made.
I think Neil Blomkamp is really onto something here, time will tell, hopefully all this results in something great.
