Horror anthology is making a huge comeback and I for one am very happy about it.
I’ve wrote a few times about Horror anthologies, as far back as 2012 I wrote about how I love Horror anthogies (If you want you can read it HERE), then in 2014 I wrote about how I thought that Horror anthology films are the way forward (If you want you can read it HERE).
This time I’m here to tell you that Horror anthology films are making a comeback, which I’m extremely happy about. Were seeing more and more anthology themed films being released which is doing a great job of showcasing upcoming talent, some of these segments have even received the full feature treatment.
Ultimately though I’m seriously excited to see that the anthology style is becoming so popular, it will open up so many opportunities for people in the industry or even trying to get a foot in. Only good things can come from this, well hopefully anyway, but I don’t think people realize how much good this can bring.
Hopefully that’s what we will see, again hopefully we will be given original stories with unknown actors and writers. There are so many great talents out there, you only need to do a quick search online to see them, this could be their time to shine and could even be future stars of the genre.
You also need to remember how many full feature films started out as short films or as part of an anthology film, this could be a chance to introduce new characters, with original plots and even original origins. It could be a big breath of fresh air for the Horror genre, even feature film in general.
I know, I know, I’m being hugely optimistic about all this and I could be setting myself up for a big disappointment but you only need to look at the last ten years and the journey to this point we’re at now. Just look at what we’ve had on our screens and the impact they’ve had.
Films such as “The ABCs Of Death”, “Southbound”, “Holidays”, “Little Deaths”, “A Christmas Horror Story”, “V/H/S”, “XX”, “Trick ‘r Treat”, “All Hallows’ Eve” and even the more recent “Ghost Stories”. Some of these have given us some unforgettable stories and even a couple of new iconic characters.
Even shows such as “American Horror Story”, an anthology Horror series. It might be hard to remember a time before it but that just shows the huge impact that show has made and was a big step forward in bringing the anthology style back to our screens it’s rise in popularity.
I’ll stop ranting now as I think you’ve got what I’m trying to say but I will stay optimistic about this and I’m extremely excited to see what all this can lead to and what these people have to offer us.
