For this ‘Ten Years On’ post we take a look back at “Afflicted”.
I was intrigued by this feature as soon as I saw the trailer.
As a fan of found footage films this looked like it was right up my alley, and fortunately I was right. At the time I remember thinking that it was like a more Horror version of the film “Chronicle” (another great film by the way, I don’t care what anyone says).
I have to say as well that I thought this helped breathe new life into a sub-genre that was certainly struggling at the time, by this point there had been an abundance of found footage style films and peoples interests were definitely waining.
Derek Lee and Clif Prowse wrote, directed and starred in this film and I don’t think they’ve been given anywhere near enough credit for what they acheived with this film. The fact that this was the first and last feature film for them both is mind boggling.
I thought Derek Lee and Clif Prowse showed a ton of potential with this feature, I thought it was a really well written script that kept the viewers interest all the way through and their directing skills were certainly on show as was there acting talent.
Ten years on and I feel that “Afflicted” could be released tomorrow and i think it would still be a relevant film.
