The all too crucial opening scene.
I’ve always thought that a great opening scene is crucial, it can set a films tone, grip the audience or even lose them. I’d love to see film makers paying more attention to their opening scenes, make them more memorable, but that’s a rant for another post.
I’ll not say anything about each video, I’ll just let them speak for themselves. So here it is, my list of my top twenty Horror film opening scenes (the list is not in a favouritism order):
Frankenstein (1931)
The Stepfather (1987)
Halloween (1978)
Jaws (1975)
Ghost Ship (2002)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
Cube (1997)
The Hitcher (1986)
Black Christmas (1974)
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
The Grudge (2004)
A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
Dawn Of The Dead (2004)
The Ring (2002)
IT (1990)
Night Of The Living Dead (1968)
Blade (1998)
The Fog (1980)
28 Weeks Later (2007)
Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man (1943)
Honourable mentions:
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
Carrie (1976)
House Of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Hatchet (2006)
When A Stranger Calls (1979)
all good choices.

I will add this — a few might not belong on the list because the opening was the ONLY thing worth re-watching. But that is a matter of opinion, of course, as you may be a big fan of, say, Ghost Ship.

I completely get you, this was just about the opening scene. Take “Ghost Ship”, opening scene is all anybody remembers, sadly the rest of the film is, well terrible
