Teenager Melissa moves into a small town filled with racial prejudice and bullying, and each time she meets up with one of the boys in town, they end up murdered – but who is the killer?

“Who is the killer?”, “who’s going to get killed next?”, “what if?” and so on. I love getting drawn into it all and if you can hook an audience with at least one of them questions then you’ve got their attention. That’s what this feature did for me, it grabbed my attention and it also had my intrigue.

With this film it’s more of a small town mystery than a full blown Horror, it tries to please as many fans as possible between the amount of blood we see on screen and how the plot and characters unfold. It’s done quite well in that sense and it deserves high praise for it as it’s not easy.

Admittedly there are a couple of scenes in the film that left me feeling, well a bit uneasy. The scene were we see what is supposed to be a 15 year old girl naked in the shower is especially weird, I know that’s her characters age but still it isn’t helped by the fact that it goes on for a while and has nothing to do with the film at all.

Apart from that I have to say that this is a pretty solid film, it’s well acted and I absolutely loved the soundtrack. Sure the film has a couple of stumbling blocks, it does take a while to get going, but once it does you’ll feel it hooking you into it’s story right until the end.

“Sweet Sixteen” is a decent enough 80’s mystery/horror film, if you’re struggling for something to watch then I suggest you give this a try.
